alansimages > View accross Teslin Lake, Yukon Territory, Canada. The photograph was taken at Teslin YT from the Alaska Highway. Teslin is a lakeside community about 175 miles north of Watson Lake, at milepost 776. Teslin is the native word for “long narrow, water” and today, most of the town comprises members of the Teslin Indian Band.

alansimages > Aspen leaf miner moth, leaving a curious trail on Aspen leaves near the Aishihik River. The moth grub can be seen on the leaf. The aspen leaf miner Phyllocnistis populiella is a native moth in the family Gracillariidae that feeds primarily on trembling aspen. Before 1999, this insect in Alaska was at endemic population levels and hardly noticeable, but the infestation has become a major concern in recent years and is ubiquitous along the Alaska highway from Whitehorse to Tok.

alansimages > - Fireweed in bloom along Kluane Lake in the Yukon territory. Fireweed (Epilobium angustifolium) which was chosen as Yukon's floral emblem in 1957, is a hardy plant and grows along Yukon roadsides, river bars and clearings . Locals say that the flowers begin low down on the plant and open successively higher on the plant as summer progresses, and Summer is over when the last flowers open on the top of the stem.
